The Catholic Services Appeal Foundation is an independent foundation that partners with fellow Catholics to share Christ’s love with neighbors in need through ministries that serve the poor, support life, and strengthen the Faith.
The Catholic Services Appeal Foundation of the Saint Paul and Minneapolis Area (CSAF) is a Minnesota nonprofit corporation that is exempt from income taxation under Internal Revenue Code section 501(c)(3). It operates exclusively for religious, charitable and educational purposes in conformity with the laws, theology, philosophy, teachings and doctrines of the Roman Catholic Church. Gifts to the CSAF are restricted gifts for the Designated Ministries.
The CSAF works with each of the parishes of The Archdiocese of Saint Paul and Minneapolis to conduct an Annual Appeal to fund 20 Designated Ministries within the Archdiocese that no one parish can support on its own (see “Whom You Help”). Many of the Designated Ministries are established pursuant to the CSAF’s organizational documents, which require the Foundation to maintain a focus on those ministries, along with others that may be added. A major goal of the Foundation is to effectively communicate how the Designated Ministries serve the poor, support life, strengthen the Faith, and transform lives through the Gospel. The CSAF has an obligation to honor and implement donor intent, with full accountability to the donors and with full transparency as to where each donor’s dollar is spent.
The CSAF coordinates and administers the Appeal on behalf of the parishes, providing them with necessary resources and services, and receiving and distributing gifts from parishioners to and for the benefit of the Designated Ministries. Local parishes also receive back for their own ministries a portion of the funds raised for the CSAF above and beyond goal.
