Campus Ministry - Newman Center

The Newman Center, operating out of the Church of Saint Lawrence, provides campus ministry to 2,200 students each year who live, work, and study at the University of Minnesota.  The sacraments are at the heart of the ministry. The Center provides all of the Catholic sacraments to the University community.

The Center is “spiritual home” to an increasing number of Catholic Students looking for community, and operates over 15 events each year which are designed to reach out to those students who are and aren’t practicing their faith.

Programs include:

  • Mass and Sacraments
  • Adoration every weekday afternoon
  • Evangelization on campus at the University of Minnesota
  • Weekly “Gopher Catholic Night”
  • Catholic Rush Week (“CRUSH”)
  • Annual Pro-Life Dinner
  • Christ in the City Spring Break Mission Trip
  • Cooking for Kids at the Ronald McDonald House
  • Feed My Starving Children and Sharing and Caring Hands Nights
  • Bible Studies
  • Retreats
  • Social Events
  • Sporting Events
  • Social Justice Events

  • Music Ministry

  • The Newman Center works closely with SPO to utilize the charisms of both organizations to grow both ministries exponentially.
  • Newman Center programs alone directly serve 1,200 students annually and the Newman Center as a whole serves 2,200 students every year.

For most ministries, CSAF funds only part of their annual budget. Some ministries have other sources of funds, such as participant fees and direct donor gifts for some of their programs.
